Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador’s eagerly anticipated event, predominately held at CNA’s Prince Philip Drive campus, saw more than 350 regional finalists from across the province competed in trade, technology and employability skill areas. Team NL will now travel to Halifax, NS for the Skills/Compétences Canada National Competition scheduled for May 27-30.

While competitions were held throughout the campus, trades demonstrations were on display in the gymnasium, including CNA’s Textiles: Craft & Apparel Design program.

College of the North Atlantic (CNA) had a solid finish with 19 gold medals, along with 18 silver and 14 bronze at the recent Skilled Career Day and 22nd annual Skills Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador (Skills-NL) provincial competition.

Most gold-medal winners earned a spot on Team Newfoundland and Labrador and will compete at the 25th annual Skills Canada National Competition in Halifax, Nova Scotia from May 27-30.

“To witness, first hand, the level of professionalism that these students have on the competition floor shows that the future of this province is in good hands,” said Bruce Hollett, CNA President and CEO. “We are extremely proud of their performance and dedication to their respective programs, and look forward to cheering them on as they compete on the national stage in Halifax.”

In the past 21 years, Team Newfoundland and Labrador has had a strong showing at the national level, coming home with several medals in a variety of fields.

“It is so inspiring to see the level of excellence with which the young people of our province perform in skilled trades and technologies,” said Carole Ann Ryan, Executive Director of Skills-NL. “We are always so proud of Team Newfoundland and Labrador and we are sure this year will be no exception.”
