BONAVISTA, NL –
College of the North Atlantic (CNA) has added a new two-year Cultural Culinary Arts & Tourism program to its list of offerings for September 2019.
CNA President & CEO Bruce Hollett was joined by Advanced Education, Skills and Labour Minister Bernard Davis, and Bonavista MHA Neil King at the college’s Bonavista campus Wednesday, March 27 to unveil the details of this new one-time joint program offering.
Cultural Culinary Arts & Tourism will see students develop their culinary skills in one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s prime tourism destinations. It is designed to align with the province’s The Way Forward
economic development plan to meet the needs of the local, regional and provincial tourism industry, as it combines various aspects, such as: historical significance, hospitality, culinary expertise, and cultural uniqueness.
“CNA is once again proud to provide a unique program that covers many facets of this province’s booming tourism industry,” said Hollett. “We strive to ensure that our program offerings are not only current and relevant, but they also meet the high-quality standards that are demanded in today’s economic climate. Graduates from this program will be able to contribute a strong skillset that will ensure the cultural uniqueness of Newfoundland and Labrador is enhanced even further.”

About Cultural Culinary Arts & Tourism
Successful applicants will reach several outcomes in this program, including:
- develop and implement a cultural culinary tourism experience;
- assess and market local foods and food products;
- cook and present local foods in a distinct Newfoundland and Labrador way; and,
- learn how to develop cultural menus specific to an audience.
Year One (Cook program): September 2019 – Applicants must meet the entrance requirements of CNA’s Cook program offering.
Year Two (Cultural Culinary Arts & Tourism): September 2020 – A post-diploma offering for eligible applicants who have graduated from a recognized college or university with a certificate, diploma or degree in the area of Cook or Culinary Arts.
