CNA students successful at Skills Canada

The 10th Annual Provincial Skills Canada competitions were held Friday, March 30, with a strong performance coming from College of the North Atlantic (CNA) students. The students competed in 18 post-secondary competitions, earning medals in 16 of them, including 13 Gold.

Gold medal winners now make up Team Newfoundland and Labrador that will compete at the Nationals in Saskatoon this June.

Gold medal winners from CNA included: Jonathan Yeo, Ridge Road – Architectural Technology and Design; Corey English, Prince Phillip Drive – Autobody Repair; Justin Flight, Prince Phillip Drive – Automotive Service; Shelley Noseworthy, Prince Phillip Drive – Baking; Blair Pitcher, Prince Phillip Drive – Culinary Arts; Stephen Genge, Ridge Road – Electronics; Becki Peckman, Prince Phillip Drive – Graphic Design; Michael Martin, Prince Phillip Drive – Internet Web Design; Shawn Edwards, Prince Phillip Drive – IT PC Network; Charlene Patten, Prince Phillip Drive – IT Software Applications; Darryl Hickey, Ridge Road – Mechanical CAD; Willis Kirkpatrick, Ridge Road – Refrigeration; Jordan Clarke, Prince Phillip Drive – Welding.

Taking home Silver medals were: Dave Saunders, Ridge Road – Architectural Technology and Design; William Hann, Prince Phillip Drive – Autobody Repair; Steven Downer, Gander – Automotive Service; Benjamin Hussey, Carbonear – Brick Masonry; Ryan Brushett, Burin – Electronics; Curtis Au, Prince Phillip Drive – Graphic Design; Victoria Stack, Labrador West – Industrial Millwright Mechanic; Christy Coombs, Bonavista – Plumbing; Mark Wilton, Corner Brook – Welding.

Bronze medalists included: Colin Taylor, Prince Phillip Drive – Architectural Technology and Design; Kevin White, Prince Phillip Drive – Autobody Repair; Andrew Gilliam, Bay St. George – Automotive Service; Sid Williams, Prince Phillip Drive – Graphic Design; Patrick Gill, Happy Valley-Goose Bay – Industrial Millwright Mechanic; Carmen Lyall, Happy Valley-Goose Bay – IT Software Applications.

CNA campuses also had a strong showing in the Top Placing Schools, with Prince Phillip Drive campus taking top honour and Ridge Road campus placing second.
