Salary Information
Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, based on the candidate's education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a comprehensive and accessible liaison between the College and Indigenous learners enrolled in programming at Happy Valley-Goose Bay Campus, ensuring Indigenous students have a smooth and supportive transition into post-secondary life.
- Undertake a series of strategic initiatives, including outreach to all Indigenous applicants before they arrive on campus to address questions or concerns, provide reassurance, and offer information about the post-secondary experience.
- Conduct follow-up meetings with applicants once they arrive on campus, addressing any new inquiries or issues that may have arisen since initial contact.
- Provide orientation, guidance, and raise awareness about the various services and resources available on campus that are tailored to helping Indigenous students acclimate to their new environment, helping them understand how to navigate campus, connect with relevant support systems and academic resources, and making the most of the opportunities available to them.
- Ensure Indigenous students feel supported, informed, and integrated into the college community.
- Meet regularly with Indigenous students to address and resolve issues identified by instructors, residence staff, college personnel, funding agencies, or those self-reported by students, whether academic, financial, or personal in nature that may require intervention and referrals to appropriate resources where necessary.
- Serve as the lead coordinator for the campus’s Indigenous Initiatives Team, overseeing and guiding the team’s efforts and initiatives.
- Develop and deliver a cultural awareness session tailored specifically to Labrador’s Indigenous groups.
- Ensure Indigenous students receive targeted support and guidance for specific campus programs, such as College Bridging and Trades Bridging. This may include offering tutoring services to those who are facing challenges in their courses to help them succeed.
- Contribute to faculty orientation by providing insights on Indigenous issues and educational needs.
- Offer recommendations for adapting the curriculum to better address the educational needs of Indigenous students, ensuring that the content is inclusive and effective.
- Other related duties as required.
Screening Criteria
- Completion of a post-secondary degree in Social Work, Counselling, or a related discipline (equivalencies may be considered).
- Experience working with and providing related support services to Indigenous Peoples and communities.
