ST. JOHN’S, NL – College of the North Atlantic (CNA) has again partnered with CBC for Feed NL, an initiative to support families in need over the holiday season.
Today, CNA launched its turkey drive across its 17 campuses throughout the province, which will run until Thursday, Dec. 13. This month-long drive will ensure the maximum opportunity for CNA students and employees to participate in this worthy cause, which will coincide with CBC’s Feed NL Day Friday, Dec. 14.
This marks the 14th year CNA has been involved with the annual fundraiser, which assists the Community Food Sharing Association and local food banks in helping the many families in need during the holiday season.
While CNA’s main promotion will centre on the donation of turkeys, the CNA community will still be able to make monetary contributions (each $25 donation represents the equivalent of one turkey) and/or drop off non-perishable food items at their respective campus lobbies.
In the spirit of creating friendly competition, the college will bring back “Turkey Wars,” which allows a challenge to be issued between a campus, class, students or CNA employees to see who can donate the most turkeys to support the Feed NL Turkey Drive.
‘Amazing initiative’
The 2017 Feed NL Day campaign raised $102,538.45 and 3,600 kg of food for the Community Food Sharing Association, and according to Eg Walters, General Manager, the organization sees more than 25,000 people accessing the food banks each month.
“CBC Feed NL Turkey drive is an amazing initiative, supporting the food banks across Newfoundland and Labrador, collecting donations for the holiday season,” said Walters. “With a compassionate heart, I encourage all to keep in mind the less-fortunate people not only during Christmas time, but throughout the rest of the year. Let us ensure this Christmas every family in Newfoundland and Labrador enjoys a special holiday meal this season.”
