CNA-Q Vice President Academic Ms. Samah Gamar addressed the panel discussion as part of the campus’s Women’s Leadership and Celebration Events.

Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser bin Khaled Al Thani, Vice Chair of NBK & Sons Group, told the group Women’s Day is not just a celebration of women, but a celebration of society.

DOHA , QATAR - College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) hosted a successful pair of Women’s Leadership and Celebration events to recognize the contribution women make in Qatar, and internationally.

“Although International Women’s Day is March 8, the celebration of women is not confined to one day. The contribution of women in Qatar and abroad is vast. This is a time to reflect on the significant contributions which happen all year long,” said Ms. Samah Gamar, Vice President Academic at CNA-Q.

On March 6, a panel discussion was held with high profile business women – Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser bin Khaled Al Thani, Vice Chair of NBK & Sons Group, and Amal Al Shammari, Founder of Embrace Doha – to discuss the important role of women in Qatar’s workplaces. For the first time this year, the college invited males to attend the Women’s Day Panel an effort to fully embrace the inclusion of men and women into discussions supporting growth in the workplace. CNA-Q President Dr. Ken MacLeod also joined the panel to show support of the initiative.

As Sheikha Hanadi eloquently said: “Women’s Day is not just a celebration of achievement of women, but a celebration of society. It takes men and women to achieve.”

During the event, two female leadership awards were presented from sponsor Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO). The awards were presented to two students who display qualities of leadership and act as role models on campus. This year the awards were presented to Amani Al Kabani and Amna Chohan. These young women will be added to a elite network of all QAPCO Women’s Leadership Award Winners from past years, who are working to build female leadership opportunities at the college. The recipients of the awards were special guests at a gala event, which was held March 7, the eve of International Women’s Day.

Miss Fatima Al Saadi, QAPCO’s Capability Building Manager, offered her congratulations to CNA-Q for organizing such an event, stating, “It is a great pleasure for QAPCO to once again support this successful event, an event that celebrates the achievements of Qatari women, and highlights their continuing contributions to cultural, economic and political development. I gives me enormous pride to hear from the panelists on how they have faced and overcame so many challenges with confidence and determination.”
