College of the North Atlantic (CNA) student Alex Hennifent was in Halifax, Nova Scotia last week for the Enactus Atlantic Canada Regionals as one of four Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champions representing the region.

Hennifent made headlines in January when he took second place at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, Atlantic Canada Qualifiers in Halifax for presenting on his business, VOLTFUSE. The prize package he was awarded was valued at $15,000.

On the heels of that win, Hennifent was selected as one of four Student Entrepreneur Provincial Champions in Atlantic Canada. VOLTFUSE is a successful Newfoundland-based headwear and clothing brand that he started when he was just 14 years old. Since then his business savvy has brought him to CNA’s Business Administration (Marketing) program at the Corner Brook campus.

“(Enactus) paid to bring me to Halifax to present and showcase my business and achievements,” Hennifent said. “It was another great experience that enabled me to network, discuss my business, and meet other youth entrepreneurs. It was really fun, but I also used this trip to my extra benefit by taking care of several business/production meetings and meeting up with several retailers and distribution agencies.”

While Hennifent wasn’t selected to advance to the next stage of the competition, he was grateful for the opportunity to showcase his business venture to his peers and potential clients.

“I sure did value this experience and will use that for strengthening my presentation and business skills for future conferences,” he said.

“I would like to send a big thanks to Chad Simms, Campus Administrator at CNA Corner Brook, for supporting me throughout my travels over the past two months with attending both the Global Student Entrepreneur and Enactus awards. Along with that, thanks to Denise Gibbons and Chantelle Troy, my instructors, for helping me prepare and offering their feedback before heading into these events.”
