Overview of Industrial Trades Programs:

College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Industrial Trades programs have a perfect combination of hands-on and classroom work. Students are instructed in the theory of a topic and then have the opportunity to complement that knowledge with a practical component. Related courses are also a part of programs to give students the skills they need to excel in today’s workplace.

Advisory Committees are in place for each trade to ensure the current Plan of Training reflects the demand of industry. Courses are designed to cover the skills and knowledge required to produce skilled workers who will be successful in their fields and in any further training or certification. Reasonably small class size and well equipped shops provide an excellent learning environment. Students have an ideal situation to receive one-on-one instruction in the classroom and the shop.

Program Accreditation

Programs within Industrial Trades seek accreditation through the Provincial Apprenticeship and Certification Board. It is responsible for the accreditation of all provincial apprenticeship training programs offered by educational agencies. Accreditation provides an auditing mechanism to ensure that apprenticeship programs are meeting the accreditation requirements as set by the accrediting board.

Gold Seal Accreditation

The Canadian Construction Association Gold Seal Certification Program is a national certification program. Certification is based on a combination of education and training as well as specific experience. CNA provides Gold Seal training courses that prepare Industrial Trades and Engineering Technology graduates for the Gold Seal certification exam.

Faculty

Industrial Trades has over 130 faculty, consisting of journeypersons in all trade programs and academic instructors who deliver related subjects such as: Workplace Skills, Job Search Techniques and Workplace Communications.
