Pitukaieu- Tshima minu takushinieku - Tunngasugit - Welcome
Welcome to our Aboriginal Resource Centre site. The Happy Valley – Goose Bay Campus of the College of the North Atlantic has between 150 to 200 students every year attending its Academic, Applied Arts, Health Sciences, Industrial trades and Natural Resources full-time programs. Fifty to eighty percent of the student population self-identify as Aboriginal (having First Nation, Inuit or Metis ancestry) and the majority of our students are from Labrador.
The Aboriginal Resource Centre works within the campus’s student services under the guidance of the Aboriginal Support Coordinator to ensure that our Aboriginal students are connected to their learning environment academically, culturally and socially. We assist Aboriginal students in making the transition to the challenges of moving from home and college life in general and strive to create an awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal Culture and History throughout the campus and the whole college community.
There are many resources, programs and services dedicated to Aboriginal Students at our campus. The Aboriginal Resource Centre located in Room 121 of the main floor of the campus that is open to all students. We have an Aboriginal Support Coordinator and a support person in the Aboriginal Resource Centre on staff, who are both committed to ensuring that our Aboriginal students reach their fullest potential while at our campus. The centre is a warm, comfortable environment where all students can socialize, learn about Aboriginal cultures and get assistance. It is also a place where student gatherings, Aboriginal awareness activities and many other planned events focusing on our Aboriginal cultures take place throughout the year. Check on our campuses Facebook page (College of the North Atlantic-HV-GB) or follow us on Twitter (@cna_arc) to see what’s happening at our centre. See you there!!
